Simon Palfrey

Simon Palfrey is Professor of English Literature at Oxford.

His books include Late Shakespeare: a New World of Words (OUP, 2000); Doing Shakespeare (2005; revised edition, Arden, 2011) a TLS International book of the year; Shakespeare in Parts (OUP, 2007), written with Tiffany Stern, awarded the Medieval and Renaissance Drama Society David Bevington Prize; Shakespeare’s Possible Worlds (Cambridge, 2014); Poor Tom: living King Lear (Chicago, 2014); “Macbeth, Macbeth” (with Ewan Fernie, Boiler House, 2021).

In 2016 he devised and co-curated (with faculty colleague Emma Smith) the major Bodleian exhibition, Shakespeare’s Dead (Bodleian & Chicago, 2016). He made the film Demons Land in 2017, part of an ongoing multimedia project exploding Spenser’s Faerie Queene.
